The Blank Page, the BBQ, and the Battle for Your Attention

aha moment jae m rang May 26, 2025

Ever sit down to create something meaningful … and draw a complete blank?  Writers block … ugh.

That was me this morning.  The page: empty. My mind: cluttered. The to-do list: impatient.

It would be easy to excuse myself from producing and say I just didn’t have time. Or that I wasn’t inspired. But neither is true. I am always inspired and there is always times for what is important. So I turned to social media to see what others were talking about.

And then I saw a social post: “I want a summer full of BBQs, pool parties, and friends!"

My first thought was, “Who has time for that?”  My very next thought being, ”Am I scheduling time for that?"

Because here’s the thing:
We’ve been conditioned to glorify the grind. To push through exhaustion. To fill our calendars to the brim.  We collapse in the weekend weakened.

We’re supposed to hustle and in the same moment, live our best life.  How do you create from the heart when you’re feeling the load of back-to-back obligations?  It’s no wonder we’re distracted and no wonder that blank page felt intimidating.

But maybe the blank page isn’t the problem. Maybe it’s the invitation.

Aha! ~ Your most powerful days are not the fullest ones but the most aligned ones.

Inspiration doesn’t come from cramming in more.  It comes from honoring what matters and creating space for what’s important to flow on through.

And the BBQ? It’s not so much about running away from responsibility or craving the BBQ as an escape. It’s about integration, right?

Bringing intention into everything—from your deepest creative work to your sun-soaked afternoons. Choosing from a place of presence not pressure. Even joy can feel like pressure when it's squeezed between deadlines.

There’s a big difference between living in reaction and living in rhythm.

Reaction is noisy. It’s triggered. It’s that scramble to keep up with everyone else’s urgency for a life shaped by what comes at you.

Rhythm is intentional. It’s aligned. It’s when your actions rise from clarity, not chaos. Rhythm honors your energy and your timing for a life shaped by what comes through you. When you live in rhythm, you make space for play without the guilt or grind.

When overload hits, begin with a gratitude moment – if you’re in demand then you must be doing something right – then ask yourself, “ Am I living in reaction or in rhythm?"

Turns out, my blank page wasn’t empty after all. It was just waiting for me to find my beat.

And the beat goes on in Human U this Wednesday at noon eastern!  Join us for a lively discussion on how to master being in the flow!
