Light it Up

aha moment jae m rang Dec 15, 2025

The season is full of glowing symbols - candles, colourful lights, twinkling evergreens - all magical and even hypnotic reminders that whatever we choose to light up is what comes alive in our world.

That’s not metaphor — it’s law.
A seed grows only where water goes.
A room brightens only where the flashlight points.
A thought expands only where your energy lands.

And whether we acknowledge it or not, each of us walks around with our own watering can and our own beam of light.

The problem?  Well, lately, it’s easy to shine that light on everything that’s breaking. Record repossessions. Mortgage defaults. Food banks overwhelmed. Homelessness rising. A level of instability and volatility none of us asked for — and certainly didn’t create. These are the consequences of decisions made far above our heads by the powers that shouldn’t be. It’s difficult to not feel a sense of despair rather than rejoice.

So, even though we’re not responsible for creating these conditions, where does our responsibility lie to moving us to higher ground?  Could it begin in the unseen—by directing our thought energy toward what we want to expand rather than what we fear?

Aha! ~  Attention is not passive.  It’s dynamic, creative and life-altering

But the moment we redirect our light, even slightly, we stop amplifying what’s collapsing and begin energizing what wants to emerge.

If we fixate on the problems, we unintentionally become extensions of them — echoing the very energy we want to escape. Pause for a powerfully insightful moment on the realization that every time we think, speak or get emotionally involved in the chaos, we feed it.

How do we milk the season?  Well, this time of year is drenched in goodwill, generosity, small kindnesses, and the quiet power of everyday people doing what they can, not waiting for someone else to do what they should. The “Christmas spirit” isn’t sentimental — it’s instructive. It’s a reminder that the smallest spark can shift the tone of a home, a community, a life.

Pro tip: start at home.

Choosing creativity over complaint creates a ripple.

Holding a vision for something better creates room for others to rise.

Focusing on your own health – spiritually, financially, intellectually, physically – creates potential.

So, as you move through these next holiday weeks, don’t take the season for granted. Let it be a teacher. Ask yourself:

  • What am I feeding?
  • What am I illuminating?
  • What am I unconsciously growing by giving it my energy?

And then intentionally – courageously - focus on what you want to see expand. Because it will. It always does. That’s law.

Light up something good —hope, possibility, kindness, your own wellbeing— and watch the season wink back with a little Christmas magic: when you shine, life shines with you.

How’s the Christmas shopping going?  Are you the superstar that is all wrapped and ready or are you still cramming before break and hope to speed-shop in the final days?  Either way, it’s all good.  Let’s aim for a stress-free Christmas because we chose it that way.  More in Human U this Wednesday.
