Ever caught yourself daydreaming about that winning lottery ticket solving everything?  (maybe just a little?)

It’s kind of funny how we, as grown adults, still hold out hope for that magical solution – the windfall, the bailout, the perfectly -timed miracle.  Solutions can manifest but let’s be honest for a second, is the winning lottery ticket the retirement plan or the backup plan?

Another bite in the butt is assuming that life’s pleasures we enjoy today will always be there.

But here’s the reality creeping in (and the cracks are no longer subtle): People are defaulting on loans like we’ve never seen before, businesses are folding like lawn chairs and health challenges among the many are escalating in record numbers.  And the people steering the bigger ship; exactly who are they building lifeboats for?

So, what do we do with this?  Do we panic? Hide? Wait for our surrogate parents to fix it? Or do we step into our real role?

Aha! ~ We’re not passengers, we’re creators

We’ve forgotten who we are.  We learned to chase credentials, not wisdom.  We value convenience over consequence and believe that thinking short-term is optimism.  We’ve also been programmed to outsource the bigger decisions to the authorities. 

But creators don’t drift.  They captain their own ship knowing full-well it means navigating storms rather than posing on deck for selfies. That’s adulting. 

Creators take ownership … they build the world they want with vision, intentions and action.  They feel how that version of life feels then – here’s the grown-up part – they make decisions that align with that vision.

Think for yourself even when it’s uncomfortable (because the crowd favours comfort over truth.)

Adulting is not always popular or sexy but it does create peace of mind, strength and freedom when the world around you feels shaky.  

Preparedness isn’t fear, it’s foresight.  It’s pairing that vision of “something amazing will come of his” with “here’s what I am doing to get there.”
